About the Nile Perch
A giant predatory fish native to the Nile, Congo, and Lake Chad basins. Its introduction into Lake Victoria in the 1950s contributed to the extinction of hundreds of native cichlid species, one of the worst ecological disasters of the century. It also created a major export fishery.
