About the Spiny Dogfish
A small shark with a mildly venomous spine in front of each dorsal fin. Forms huge schools in cool waters. Its pregnancy lasts around two years, among the longest of any vertebrate. Long caught for fish and chips in Britain, where it was sold as rock salmon. Overfishing has caused steep declines.
