About the Bluegill

A small, deep-bodied sunfish with a dark flap on its gill cover. One of the most common fish in North American ponds and the first fish many children catch. Males build and guard nests in colonies in shallow water. Some small males sneak into nests to fertilize eggs instead of guarding.
