About the Atlantic Cod

One of the most economically important fish in history, fueling Viking voyages, Basque fleets, and New England trade. The Grand Banks fishery off Newfoundland collapsed in 1992, leading to a moratorium that put tens of thousands out of work. Cod are slow to recover where heavily fished.
